Transmillennial 2007 Reaches New Heights
by staff writer

Presence International concluded its nineteenth annual conference with a grand vision to see God and all things in a new light. The theme for Transmillennial 2007 was “God’s Great and Precious Promises.” The twelve conference speakers presented fresh views of God that can transform lives and society.

Kevin Beck, COO of Presence, commented, “Presence has reached a critical mass. We’re finding new ways of reaching beyond theology and experiencing spiritual life practices that emerge out of God’s reconciliation of all things. This is a very exciting time.”

An international audience participated in workshops designed to implement tangible effects of fostering a greater awareness of God’s presence. Tim King opened Transmillennial® 2007 with a stirring call to perceive the sublime, awe, mystery, and glory of God and life. He followed this with a workshop that offered practical wisdom on ways to enable God in the creative shaping of the world.

Max King presented a theological discourse based in Romans 11 that provides a context for understanding and actualizing a Kingdom of God lifestyle.

Amie May of WomenBeyond discussed shifting perceptions of gender roles in society and called for personal interaction in place of perceiving people simply in terms of their gender. Joe Lewis painted a picture of an all-encompassing God who permeates all of life, and motivational speaker Fred DeFalco built on this theme by demonstrating useful actions that make people “big shots” in the Kingdom of God. Fred showed how people can “give to get,” not in the sense of selfishly accumulating goods. Instead, he explained that giving increases our capacity to give even more.

Denée King presented a thought-provoking session “What Were You Thinking?” She suggested that our outlook is shaped by our “inlook.” As our recognition of God’s presence sharpens, our lives and world will transform.

Radio personality Allen Brooks exemplified this when he presented the story of transformation in the life of his family, and Doug Reed drew parallels between covenantal transformation and personal transformation. Bill Vradenburgh traced the transformation of human fear derived from commandments to love grounded in divine love.

Professional futurist and strategic foresight practitioner Frank Spencer offered a multidisciplinary look at shifting perceptions that allow for the creation of preferable futures. His pioneering work on aspirational futures provides tools for shaping decentralized systems that are contributing to a more hopeful world.

Kevin Beck offered a fresh cosmology based on the vision of Paul, Peter, and Isaiah. He outlined the process by which humanity moved from a “Proto-adamic Kosmos” to an “Eschato-adamic Kosmos.” He concluded the conference by drawing from Romans 13:8-10 in order to introduce the concept of Agapeology. Beck noted, “Agapeology is the study of love. We study love not by reading books, but by loving others. Agapeology allows us to take theological ideas and frame them in terms of God’s agape or love, which in turn pulls us into the practice of loving.”

The highlight of Transmillennial® 2007 came from Doug King and his revolutionary exploration of “The Knowledge of Good and Evil.” Beginning in Genesis, Doug traced the concept of “good” through the Bible. He explained how “good” can entice people into making harmful and destructive decisions.   Doug showed God’s place above both good and evil, and he discussed God’s work in calling humanity to participate in God’s divine nature. He wrapped up by providing concrete actions for people to develop “perfect” spiritual life practice that will transform their lives, families, workplaces, and the world.

One conference participant exclaimed, “This week changed my life! I’ll never see anything the same way again. I came expecting theology, and I got so much more.”

Kevin Beck said, “Transmillennial® 2007 is a launching point for a new phase in the work and mission of Presence. We are treading new ground and making new pathways in implementing God’s presence as all-in-all. I know you’ll love where all this will lead. In the next twelve to eighteen month, we will see changes never before imagined.”

A conference CD containing the messages from Transmillennial® 2007 will be available for purchase soon. Max King’s lectures will be offered in a separate format.

The twentieth anniversary Transmillennial® conference, Transmillennial® 2008, is tentatively scheduled for June 11-14, 2008 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The theme will be “All Things New.” More information on the conference center, theme, and speakers will be forthcoming.
