Where to Begin
by Tim King

Welcome to what for many of you may be the beginning of your investigation into the concepts of fulfilled prophecy or what we like to call Covenant Eschatology (we'll have more to say about what that means in just a minute).

There are some features to this site that may help you better navigate it and at the start we want to tell you where all the free stuff is and how to access it!

Our goal is to educate as best we can, so we've provided plenty of free information to help you on your way to better understanding what the fulfilled view is all about.

Theological Journal:

Under this section, Covenantal Transformation, we have provided numerous articles about the fulfilled view and plan regular updates as well. From the bar on the right of these pages you will be able to access additional information (free of charge) from our theological Journal.

Once you click on the Journal link, you will be able to download a free trial issue to see if you like the format and style. If you do, you may subscribe for just a ten-dollar donation per year. If you don't subscribe, you will be able to read about 15% of each new journal as it is published (quarterly) … we do this to help you determine if a subscription is worth it or not; we're betting that it is (smile).

In order to better serve our visitors, underneath our most recent journal postings you will find archived articles from some of over 100 journal issues that Presence has been publishing since 1988. These are free and as time and resources permit, we will be adding more of them to assist you in your research. As well, at the end of each calendar year Presence will post the journals from the previous year in full. So, if the ten dollars is stretching your budget, just wait a year and you'll get them all for free anyway.

The main difference between what you will find in our journal articles versus the one's we post under the main Covenantal Transformations page, is that our journal articles are generally more theological in tone and longer while the articles posted on the Covenantal Transformations page are more popularly written and shorter.

Webcasts:

Also listed to the right of this page is a link to our webcasts. These free five-minute productions combine both theology and practical living to encourage you in taking the truth of Scripture and seeing how it plays out in your everyday life. For the most part a new one is posted semi-regularly (usually this means every-other-week, but then again, sometimes we just need a break!). They are viewed via Real Player software-a free link is provided for you to download this if it is not already installed on your computer.

What if I have a specific question and can't find any articles that address  it? Well, we're glad you asked…

Search First:

First you may want to use our "search this site" link. Type in key words and if they appear in any of our articles, in just seconds you will be directed to the appropriate information.

Forum:

Also free of charge is our "public" forum. Here you will find wonderful moderators and other gracious believers who will provide plenty of stimulating dialogue in answering any question(s) that you might have.

So, got questions? Take them to the forum and enjoy the journey!

Store:

By far some of the best information you will find comes from our online store. Just click the "Store" link and before you will appear our larger works on fulfilled prophecy. You will note that there are also "free" items to be found on this page as well. The primary gift that we would like to send to you is our ministry biography (195 pp.) entitled, "Give Me This Mountain." (When ordering, we would appreciate it if you would give a donation to cover the shipping, but that is not required.)

This book will provide you with ample background information on this ministry, its roots and where it is headed in the future. Written in a popular and light-hearted style, you will find it an easy read and full of interesting factual information, humorous stories and inspiration.

Likewise, we are happy to provide you with a free ebook copy of Max King's "Old Testament Israel and New Testament Salvation." Though only 71 pages in length, I think you will find plenty of deep and stimulating teaching that should inspire you to move into some of our larger works such as The Spirit of Prophecy book (by Max King) and the accompanying Spirit of Prophecy DVD Study Series (by Tim King), or perhaps the MP3 formatted 8 lesson audio series and workbook, A Comprehensive Overview of Covenant Eschatology  (by Tim King and Jack C. Scott) or perhaps even The Cross and Parousia of Christ - a full 800-page offering on the subject of fulfilled prophecy by Max R. King.

Conclusion:

So, as you can see, we have a lot of study materials available for you to explore the field of Covenant Eschatology . . . which reminds me, we said at the opening that we would have more to say about this term. So before I close, perhaps I should briefly define it.

Eschatology (pronounced: es-ka-tology) is the doctrine of last things-like the supposed end of the world or second coming of Christ, the judgment, coming of the kingdom and the resurrection.

We call it "covenant" eschatology because we believe that we serve a covenant God who brought forth a covenant people to bring about the glory of his name through the redemption of the nations. And where do we find this story? In a covenant book that He has left us … a book we popularly know as the Bible.

So, in brief, we see the time between the cross of Christ and the A.D. 70 destruction of Jerusalem as the period best known as the "last days." Not the last days of human history, but the bringing to light the fullness of redemptive history. It was a period of covenantal transitioning out of the Old and into the New. With the removal of Jerusalem's temple in it's A.D. 70 demise at the hands of the Romans, the complete establishment of the New Covenant (the full covenantal presence of Christ to reconcile us back to the Father, popularly called the Second Coming, a term not found in Scripture) was fulfilled.

This interpretation closely follows both the time predictions of Jesus and the earliest New Testament writers as well as the teaching "method" of Jesus. It might be helpful to think of this method as teaching in terms of providing "maps" versus "photographs." For instance, in John 6 after feeding the five thousand, Jesus taught the need to enter the kingdom by "eating his flesh and drinking his blood." That was a pretty strange way of stating it and a lot of people couldn't listen to it… actually, the masses all turned and left. However, as we study this text today, we understand the kingdom metaphor of Jesus was really just a map pointing to a higher truth… but the masses 2,000 years ago, took it as a photograph instead. And because they used this interpretive approach of literalism, they missed God among them!

The same could be true with Jesus' teaching about the coming of the Kingdom, a coming he promised would occur in their lifetime but not like they expected, not be viewed with their physical eyes - again, teaching with maps pointing to higher truths. But those in his audience yearned for a physical, wooden-literalism regarding the coming kingdom and demanded it be something other than what Jesus was offering.

The result? They crucified Jesus and missed God among them.

This raises the question: If people 2000 years ago interpreted the teachings of Jesus as photographs of literalism versus maps (or metaphors) pointing to higher truths, is it possible that we are doing the same thing in interpreting Scripture today? Is it possible that we need to take another look at the meaning of the second appearing of Christ and its nature, time and manner (as well as the issue of the kingdom, judgment, etc)?

We at Presence think this just might be the case. And that is what you will find under discussion in the multitude of articles under the heading of Covenantal Transformation.

Then, as you enter into the areas of personal, organizational and societal transformation, you'll begin to get a feel for how we believe we are impacted and are to live in light of the first century covenantal transformation of all things.

Together let's try to figure out this story as best we can. What a wonderful way to invest our time. We're glad you've stopped by and, again, we welcome you to the conversation.
